Cbse North Zone-ii Chess Championship, 2016

It was a matter of great pride and pleasure that Guru Nanak Dev Academy, Tarn Taran had been given the opportunity to host the CBSE NORTH ZONE-II CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP, 2016 for Boys & Girls U-11, U-14 & U-19 in the four category schedule from 21st October to 24th October, 2016.

More than 474 students participated in the CBSE North Zone Chess Championship 2016 held at Guru Nanak Dev Academy, Chabal Road, Tarn Taran from October 21-24, 2016. The school is the first in the city to organize the inter-school chess tournament. Around 54 schools and 117 teams from Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal, and Haryana took part in the event, which is divided into 4 categories: Girls Under 11, Mixed Under 11, Girls Under 14, Mixed Under 14, Girls Under 19 and Mixed Under 19. CBSE schools sent in teams of four players each who competed in a total of 6 rounds.

The Champions in the Under 11 Girls category was Cambridge International School for Girls, Jalandhar followed by Cambridge International Co-Ed School, Jalandhar , Spring Dale Amritsar and Model School Rohtak. In the Under 11 Mixed category CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL CO-ED SCHOOL, JALANDHAR emerged the winner followed by DAV MULTIPURPOSE SCHOOL, SONEPAT, AMITY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL and MODERN VIDYA NIKETAN SR. SEC. SCHOOL, FARIDABAD.

Spring Dale Amritsar topped in the Under 14 Girls, followed by MODEL SCHOOL, ROHTAK, AMITY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FOR GIRLS, JALANDHAR. In the Under 14 Mixed category, DAV MULTIPURPOSE SCHOOL, SONEPAT got the 1st Position. The second position was bagged by CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL CO-ED SCHOOL, JALANDHAR followed by MODEL SCHOOL, ROHTAK and SPRING DALE SCHOOL.

In the Under 19 Girls category, CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL CO-ED SCHOOL, JALANDHAR emerged the winners. The second position was bagged by CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FOR GIRLS, JALANDHAR followed by BCM ARYA MODEL SR. SEC SCHOOL, LUDHIANA and MANAV RACHNA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, FARIDABAD.

In the Under 19 Mixed category, CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL CO-ED SCHOOL, JALANDHAR was the topper, the second position was bagged by BCM SCHOOL, LUDHIANA followed by SRI RAM ASHRAM, AMRITSAR and DPS GURGAON

Four teams from each category qualify for the national finals to be held in November.

The lowering of the CBSE flag at the Closing Ceremony was performed by Baba Jagtar Singh Ji, the Chairman of the Academy. The Office Bearers of Sahodaya Schools Complex and Principals of various schools, Coaches and CBSE observer were at the closing ceremony.

Later the Prize Distribution Ceremony was held and prizes were given to the students by Baba Jagtar Singh ji (Kar Sewa Tarn Taran) and Principal Ms. Nirmaljit Sandhu.
